Guy Lombard and Claire Caswell are back.
That will delight fans of the work of Marilyn Jax, author of mysteries extraordinaire. The Lombard/Caswell duo were first seen with “The Find” and the sequel, “Road to Omalos”, which Marilyn launched here in the Cayman Islands.
The latest tome, “Sapphire Trails”, will be presented to the world on Tuesday, 19 March at 7pm in Books & Books in Camana Bay, during another free author event. Marilyn is looking forward to her latest visit to paradise and says that the first two novels have been well-received by fans and award-givers alike.
“I am pleased to say the response has been wonderful,” she confirms. “My two previous novels, have been honoured with 10 national and international book awards between them. They have become favourites of anyone who enjoys a good mystery from teens on up.
“I have established a loyal fan base,” she adds. “My goal when I started writing was to craft intriguing mysteries that would leave my readers salivating for each new book, and I am humbled and proud to say that this has happened.”
The latest book, she says, is a mystery set in Montana. It is another place with which she has great affinity.
“My great grandfather purchased land in Montana’s Bitterroot Valley in 1906, and that land is still in my family. I travel to Montana every year and enjoy spending time there. It is a special place and I write about places I have visited that inspire me,” she says.
“Sapphire Trails is a real whodunit with a cast of colourful suspects. The reader will try to figure out who the culprit is before it is revealed in the end, but so far no one has! Sapphire gemstones are mined in the mountains of Montana and become a significant clue in solving the crime.”
The book has already won the USA Book News accolade as best mystery or suspense of 2012 and was also named a winner in the Los Angeles-based USA Best Book Awards.
Come back, Guy
Weekender can’t help wondering what the lead characters would make of the Cayman Islands. “Claire and Guy adore Grand Cayman. In fact, my first book in the series, The Find, actually starts out in Grand Cayman. It is a favourite vacation spot for my main two characters, (who own a private investigation firm headquartered in Miami Beach) to escape to.
“Claire and Guy dream about returning to Grand Cayman for some days away from the sizzling and stressful streets of Miami Beach. I’m quite certain readers will see that happen in a future book in the series,” says Marilyn.
And, true to form, the busy author is working on the fourth instalment in the series, “Never in Ink”.
“The storyline will take my two main characters to Italy and France on a riveting new investigation. The story will pull readers in immediately, like my other books, and keep them turning pages until the very last,” promises the writer.
Marilyn Jax will be reading from Sapphire Trails and signing books at Books & Books in Camana Bay on Tuesday, 19 March. It starts at 7pm and admission is free.
