New appointment, document delivery service for US visas

The United States Embassy in Jamaica on Monday, 18 March, implemented a new appointment and document delivery service for all US visas.

In addition to added convenience, the new procedures eliminate many of the fees associated with the prior visa application process, including the additional costs of PIN codes and DHL delivery within Jamaica.

The embassy has now reopened the appointment scheduling system, which can be done by phone by calling 876-632-7400 (Jamaica number) or 703-439-2360 (US number).

Non-immigrant visa applicants can now pay their application fee by credit card online or over the phone or at any National Commercial Bank branch using a deposit slip obtained on the scheduling website. Applicant fees must be paid before an appointment can be scheduled.

Additionally, applicants must indicate an address for passport delivery at the time of appointment scheduling. Delivery to the Cayman Islands must be arranged and paid for separately. Applicants who paid their MRV fees prior to 18 March should contact [email protected] to be scheduled for an appointment.

There are also new procedures for first-time applicants who are under 5 years old, or older than 80. Any applicant in these age brackets who is a Cayman Islands national and applying for a visitor visa (B1/B2) may courier in their application package via DHL, and is not required to appear at the embassy for an interview. For applicants younger than 5, their application package must include an original Cayman Islands birth certificate, as well as a copy of a parent’s valid visitor visa (B1/B2) issued with full 10-year validity.

Immigrant visa applicants will still have their initial appointments scheduled by the National Visa Center in the United States. For documents and passports delivered within Jamaica, immigrant visa applicants should register for free DHL services through the scheduling website or over the phone. Delivery to the Cayman Islands must be arranged and paid for separately. If immigrant visa applicants require follow-up appointments, they will be given instructions at the time of their first appointment at the embassy.
