Ahren rises Florida ranks

A young Caymanian is doing well in athletics overseas.

Ahren Bryan, an 11th grade student, recently won the high jump event for Newsome High School in a district meet at Spoto High School in Riverview, Florida. The son of Patricia Bryan had a distance of six feet, two inches.

Bryan, whose school is based in Lithia, would be part of a Newsome boys team that finished second at the meet with 139.50 points, just behind first-place North Port and their 144 points.

According to athletic.net, which tracks US high schools and their students’ performances in various meets, Bryan is the Wolves’ best jumper. His previous best was 5ft, 11.65in at the University of South Florida Steinbrenner Invitational in Tampa, Florida. Bryan also has the school’s third-best long jump mark of 17ft, 3.87in, which he also set at the Steinbrenner Invitational last month.
