Titans aim to stall Charterland

With only one blemish so far, Charterland remain in contention for basketball glory.

The reigning two-time Division Two champions are next in action on Wednesday, 24 April, at 7.45pm. The squad faces Titans at Camana Bay’s Arts and Recreation Centre as part of the Cayman Islands Basketball Association 2013 National Men’s League.

According to the last available standings, Charterland were third at 3-1 with a game in hand. Their last victory was a 85-55 thrashing of 1-3 Esso Blazers.

Four players were in double digits as Scott Murray scored 19 points and seven steals, Jeremy Strickland notched 16 points off four 3-pointers, Nathan Smith produced 14 points and 11 rebounds and Will Koutney added 14 points and four steals. Davion Foster was Esso’s lone bright spot with 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Titans, 2-1, were fourth after a 59-38 beating of last place 0-5 New Jerusalem. Bruce Thompson led Titans with 18 points and six rebounds, Damion Henry had 16 points and seven rebounds and Kadane Hall contributed 12 points and 18 rebounds. Kevin Connolly led New Jerusalem with 11 points and six rebounds.

Wednesday’s other contest pits New Jerusalem against 4-1 Game Takers, the league leaders. Game Takers are still on a high after beating 3-2 team Philippines, 89-59.

Bruce Reynolds was top scorer with 13 points and six assists, Maxwell Linwood had 12 points and five steals, Darryl Paddyfoot scored 12 points with Cleveland Stewart Snr and Nigel Ebanks adding 10 points apiece. Darwin Mancenido scored 14 points for Philippines.
