The Ernst and Young Hot Shots are the first champions in netball this year.
Ernst and Young beat Optimists, 19-18, in the Division Three final of the Cayman Islands Netball Association 2013 Open League. Last Thursday’s contest took place at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex netball courts.
It was a close contest throughout between two teams with 4-1-1 records who had a share of the regular season crown. The score was tied at nine-all by halftime with the Hot Shots winning the second half 10-9.
Guiding Ernst and Young to victory were a quartet of attacking players in Goal Shooter Gemma Butterfield, Goal Attack Kate MacPherson, Wing Attack Kate McRymont and Centre Georgina Loxton.
GS and team captain Milaney Dunn Garwood steadied the Optimists attack, followed by GA Nekita Saintvil, WA Sashana Ranger and C Alexandria Saintvil.
Focus now shifts to the Championship and Plate Divisions, which start their playoffs on Thursday, 2 May, at Truman Bodden.
