CrossFit competitors from the Cayman Islands did exceptionally well again at the Latin American regionals in Ecuador over the weekend.
CrossFit 7 Mile won the team event in dramatic fashion again and Tarasa Barnett, who was competing for CrossFit Cayman, was second in the women’s individual event to Courtney Modecki.
It was held at the Coliseum in Guayaquil and CrossFit 7 Mile retained the title they won last year but had to excel in the seventh and final event on Sunday to do so.
Barnett went painstakingly close to getting through to the CrossFit Games finals in Carson, California next month but only the male, woman and team winners go through from the Latin America region. Barnett finished second. Her husband Matt was in the individual men’s competition but did not complete all seven events.
CrossFit 7 Mile team comprised of Jenn Chailler, Chris Spigner, Trevor Amodeo, Wanda Brenton, Martin Van Zyl and Schmarrah McCarthy.
Team CrossFit 7 Mile went into a big group hug as they celebrated the win.
“We’re still on a high from the event and very happy with our achievement. We felt confident throughout the competition and it resulted in a good ending,” said Wanda Brenton of CrossFit 7 Mile.
Chris Spigner, teammate and coach added: “We trained really hard to get here and now we plan on unifying the team even further so we can do our best at the Games.”
