Local basketball coach Victor “Voot” O’Garro believes the San Antonio Spurs will go on to win the NBA Finals series after their 113-77 crushing of the Miami Heat in Game Three on Tuesday.
All talk ahead of the best-of-seven series centred on the “Big Three” on each team, with San Antonio’s Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili set to take on Miami’s LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.
Trinidadian Voot said: “I’m actually a Lakers fan, but in this series I’m backing Spurs because of Tim Duncan, who is from the Caribbean – St Croix. “I think the Spurs are going to win the series. Duncan has played in four Finals and never lost. The Spurs have never trailed in a Finals and also James seems to crumble in Finals.”
But it was the Spurs’ Danny Green and Gary Neal who outplayed the defending champions at San Antonio’s AT&T Center to take a 2-1 series lead. Green scored 27 points, with Neal scoring 24 as San Antonio dominated.
Parker was forced to withdraw with a hamstring injury and he will have an MRI scan ahead of Thursday’s Game Four.
Game Five, to be played on Sunday, is in San Antonio before the series returns to Miami’s American Airlines Arena.
