Time for amateur chefs to warm up for cook-off prelims

Those with a passion for cooking are invited to enter the annual Bon Vivant Cayman Cookout Cook-Off, a culinary competition judged by celebrity chefs Eric Ripert, Jose Andres and Anthony Bourdain. The event, part of the Cayman Cookout, will hold preliminary rounds starting Tuesday, Nov. 19. 

During the cookout’s Bon Vivant Champagne Brunch on Jan. 19, 2014, the finalists will face off.  

Cayman Cookout, hosted by Chef Ripert, celebrates its sixth season from Jan. 16-19, 2014. Presented by The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman, the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism and Food and Wine magazine, the cookout is a gathering of great chefs, wine makers and culinary personalities, and food and wine enthusiasts from around the globe. 

“The Cook-Off is so unique because it gives the opportunity to celebrate the passion people have for cooking, and it allows us to emphasize the wealth of ingredients we have available locally” says Cynthia Hew, Bon Vivant owner and event sponsor. “It not only challenges participants to get creative and prove their talents in the kitchen, but it also proves quite inspirational for the participants and those who come out to support.” 

The winner will receive a trip for two to the Food and Wine Best New Chef Event in New York City, with airfare provided by Cayman Airways, hotel provided by The Ritz-Carlton, and lunch at Le Bernardin.
