F1 fans ‘Rush’ to help Pines home

Formula One Fans of the Cayman Islands are presenting the highly anticipated Caribbean premiere of the hit movie Rush this weekend.

It is on this Friday at Camana Bay cinemas at 6:45 p.m. The film, directed by Academy Award winner Ron Howard, opened to audience acclaim and stellar reviews in North America and Europe last month.

Rush details the rivalry between brash British driver James Hunt and the taciturn Austrian Niki Lauda during the 1976 Formula One season.

Review sight RottenTomatoes.com says of Rush: “It’s a sleek, slick, well-oiled machine, a finely crafted sports drama with exhilarating race sequences and strong performances from Chris Hemsworth and Daniel Brühl.”

Brühl as Lauda, is a newcomer to English language films. Fans will immediately recognize the dashing Chris Hemsworth from his roles in Thor, Star Trek and The Avengers.”

F1 fans in Cayman have been eagerly awaiting the film and have turned the initial showing into a fundraising event for The Pines retirement Home.

A $25 donation allows participants to view the inaugural showing of the film and enjoy a complimentary beverage from West Indies Wine Company following the screening.

“F1 Fans of the Cayman Islands has been raising money throughout the year for a variety of charities,” said spokesman Danny Roach.

“We’ve raised thousands at our regular race-day gatherings through raffles and auctions. We’re anticipating a complete sellout of tickets by Friday and raising more for a very worthy cause.”

Tickets are only being sold through F1FCA members on a person-to-person basis. Tickets have been selling rapidly. “We’ve been receiving calls day and night and we anticipate a sellout in short order,” Roach said.

Anyone wishing to buy tickets for the premiere and wine reception can check the group’s Facebook page, listed as F1FCI, or they can contact Danny Roach on 926-1108 for information and tickets.
