Local netball continues forward in Cayman.
The Cayman Islands Netball Association has a pair of matches planned for Saturday, Feb. 15, in the Appleby Netball League. Cayman National Bank All Stars B takes on Lights International, while Rising Stars B battle the University College of the Cayman Islands. Both division two matches are at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex netball courts, starting from 6:45 p.m.
According to the latest standings, All Stars B have relied on veteran talents like Karen Smith-James to rank in first place with a 7-0 record. Lights are fifth out of nine teams at 4-1-2. Rising Stars are second at 5-2, while UCCI is ranked eighth at 1-6. Saturday’s matches come after a pair of contests took place Thursday. Ernst and Young Hot Shots faced the Spirits, while Affinity Sapphires challenged Jacques Scott Social.
Ernst and Young – with the likes of Lauren Smith and Joanna Knight – were sixth with a 2-5 record. The Hot Shots’ most recent result was a 16-10 win over UCCI last week. The Spirits – with talents such as Kacie Ramos – were ninth at 1-6 and are coming off a 66-12 defeat at the hands of All Stars B last Saturday. Affinity was third at 5-2 behind star shooter Rose Smith. The Sapphires enjoyed a 30-26 win over Lights International last week. Jacques Scott ranked seventh at 2-1-4 after a 41-15 victory over UCCI.
The division two standings saw All Stars B, Rising Stars B and Affinity ahead of 4-4 Blue Diamonds, Lights International, Hot Shots, Jacques Scott, UCCI and Spirits.
In division one, five teams are competing for kudos. The standings show Roma, Rising Stars A and Conyers All Stars all level at 3-1, followed by 1-3 Unity and 0-4 Flames Strikers. The latest result was a 40-28 win by Conyers over Roma last weekend.
