The Ironman Texas is one of the world’s toughest triathlons and four Cayman residents were able to negotiate the gruelling event and return home in triumph.
An Ironman is the ultimate sporting challenge and all the months of preparation proved worthwhile on Sunday as Dave Bennett, Justine Plenkiewicz, Tony Watts and Donna Harding completed the 2.4 mile sea swim, 112 mile bike and full marathon distance of 26.2 miles.
Bennett was first weekend warrior home in 12 hours, 21 minutes, 49 seconds. Plenkiewicz finished in 12:40:06, Watts in 13:20:24 and debutante at the distance Harding in 14:34:54.
Harding was the most jubilant. She said, “I still can’t believe I have completed an Ironman – and well within the cut-off time too.
“I’m so happy and relieved to have crossed the finish line after all the training and challenges and still smiling.”
