Boucher girls leap over the rest

Cayman riders are gearing up for the end of a local competition.

The final leg of the National Show Jumping League is scheduled to take place on May 31 at Cayman Riding School’s Hirst Road arena. It promises to be a spectacular finish as event winners will decide the champions and reserve champions for each class this year.

The league’s penultimate leg took place last month. Quarantine restrictions at the Cayman Islands Equestrian Center allowed only Cayman Riding School riders to compete. Juliette Forrester on Apollo was in a class of her own in the 0.6 meter adult class, where she delivered a time of 64.20 seconds, the day’s fastest adult time. In the 0.7m segment, Michelle Boucher posted a time of 66.12 seconds.

In the children’s segment, Lea Rado – on her new horse Never Ending Story – competed in the league for the first time and finished with the meet’s second fastest time win the 0.6m juniors’ class with a time of 53.77 seconds. Jenna Boucher, who had done a similar thing on Katrina when she entered the league in 2013, finished second. Chloe Fowler and Shirley were third, Meegan Slattery and Max fourth and Eva Muspratt and Oscar fifth.

For the 0.7m juniors’ class, Rado and Jenna Boucher fought it out for the top spot again but this time Jenna Boucher and Katrina took first place with a time of 52.80 seconds, the meet’s fastest mark, with Rado a close second at 54.55 seconds. Hannah Fowler came in third and fourth place, on Harry and Seligkeit respectively, with sister Chloe Fowler and Shirley Temple in fifth.

Michelle Boucher and Alex Rado dueled it out in the 0.85m adults class, with Michelle Boucher posting a time of 69.04 seconds to clip Alex Rado by just over 5 seconds. Hannah Fowler, taking her young horse to 0.85m for the first time, was the sole entrant in the 0.85m junior class and collected 12 faults in the field and two time faults to finish with a time of 84.32 seconds.
