Captains pitch ideas

Softball chiefs will be taking a closer look at the mound.

Pitching will be the main point of emphasis at the mandatory captains meeting for the upcoming 2014 Fall Adult Coed Softball League. Put on by the Cayman Islands Little League Association, the league is slated to start on Sept. 1.

At Monday’s meeting at the Field of Dreams clubhouse from 7 p.m., the focus will be on the rules of pitching. League coordinator Alan Markoff, who also plays in the competition for the Coors Light Chuggers, noted the position of the pitcher while making a pitch was a source of numerous complaints last season. Presently, the league follows American Softball Association rules.

Next month’s competition will feature 12 regular season games over eight weeks, plus double elimination playoffs. The league will be run by Markoff and the association’s program and facility manager Latoya McField. The last coed competition, the winter league, wrapped up in June.
