Robertson flew

Wakeboarder Lewis Robertson did exceptionally well in his first international tournament, in the United States, over the weekend.

The 18-year-old Caymanian competed in the Rock the Creek competition in North Carolina on Saturday. Robertson was placed in the Outlaw category – the highest skill level in the competition which included professionals from the U.S. and Sweden.

Successfully completing 540-degree rotations, “scarecrows” and back rolls during his two runs, Robertson placed a credible fifth out of 40 competitors. He so impressed onlookers that he has been invited back to train and compete in the U.S. and looks forward to the next competition season which begins in May.

In the meantime, Robertson will continue improving his technique on Cayman waters and cross training to fulfil his potential.

Robertson would love to be a wakeboard pro and also plans to go to university to study geography after his final year at school.

He said he felt good about his performance but realizes he has a long way to go and is going to work even harder to get there.
