The Cayman Islands Tennis Club hosted the fourth PwC Junior Circuit Tournament of the year over the weekend and the overall standard was extremely high, considering the kids were coming back from the long summer break.
The tournament had 24 of Cayman’s top juniors participating.
The tournament saw a lot of first-time winners at the Cayman Islands Tennis Club in South Sound.
In the 10 and under division, the winner, Jake Serpell defeated No. 2 seed Caden Stradling in a tough final match, winning his first ever PwC junior title.
The 10 and under division was the biggest division, with 10 participants, and for the organizers it was pleasing to see first timers doing well, with Jakub Neveril winning the Consolation round.
In the 12 and under division, No. 2 ranked Lauren Fullerton accomplished a great win in the finals against Neildeep Ghosh to claim her first title.
Fullerton has carried forward her great form from Jamaica a couple of months ago when she captured a title in Kingston.
In the 14 and under division, the No. 1 player from the 12 and under division, Jack Lomax, played up an age group against a familiar foe, Harrison Clough.
The match was tight and at the end Clough won in a tough third-set tie breaker for his first 14 and under PwC title. Although Clough was the pre-match favorite, it was a long fought match between two competitive players.
In the 18 and under division, another newcomer to Cayman enhanced the junior scene. Brad Johnston, who recently moved here from the United Kingdom, will add more competitive edge to this division.
Johnston defeated Jade Wilkinson for the third place spot, while, the division’s No. 1 player, Daniel Reid, defeated Callum Theaker in an extremely tight and long two-set match.
Tennis club head coach Rob Seward said, “The Cayman Islands Tennis Club is very proud to host these events for the federation and we give a special thanks to PwC for their continued support in growing tennis here.
“These tournaments are a great gateway to get juniors excited about sport and how they carry themselves further in the world that awaits them.” Seward also thanked the pros at the club for hosting another popular event.
The final PwC Junior Circuit Tournament will be held at the Ritz-Carlton at the end of November.
