50 years ago: Message in a bottle

East-End-final-new-50-years-WEBIn the April 27, 1966 edition of the Caymanian Weekly, a precursor of the Cayman Compass, East End correspondent Charles Dixon wrote:

“Farmers are getting worried as the drought continues to endanger their crops. Water is scarce, and everywhere it is dry and dusty. Our greatest need of the day is water, so let us pray for rain.

“A phial was found on the beach on the 20th by Mrs. Joyce McLaughlin. A note was inside requesting the finder to write C.I. Robbins who resides in England. The bottle was dropped in the sea at Buenos Aires in October, 1965.”
