The second round of the qualifiers for the Junior Caribbean Championships, sponsored by RSM, was held at The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman Golf Club on Dec. 4.

Cayman’s junior boys and girls are vying for positions in their respective age groups for the championships, which will be held in Trinidad in July.

Justin Hastings solidified his top position by shooting a 73, putting him 34 shots ahead after two rounds in the boys 11-13 age group. After two rounds, Andy Hastings (91-86) and Todd Purton (90-87) are tied for second, with James Bould trailing by only two shots.

In the boys 16-17 age group, Joe Purton posted a 76 after sitting out round one due to an injury.

Aaron Jarvis and Derek Peene are demonstrating consistency with solid rounds in the 14-15 age group. Jarvis is securely in the lead, with Peene in the number two spot, a press release stated.

In the girls 11-13 age group, Holly McLean held her No. 1 position with a combined 85-92. Lauren Needham and Tabitha Hawkins, who are competing in the qualifiers for the first time, are both playing consistently and gaining valuable experience in this higher level of play, the press release states.

The third of four qualifying rounds will be held at North Sound Golf Club on Jan. 14. The top three scores for each golfer will be counted toward their final score to determine the qualifiers for each age group. The Junior Team for the championships will be announced in February.
