Members of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society are in Cayman to share their experience of activism on the high seas.
The crew of the John Paul Dejoria will speak about their work at Guy Harvey’s restaurant at 5:30 p.m. today. The event, organized with the National Trust, is free.
The original mandate of the Sea Shepherd organization was marine mammal protection and conservation with the immediate goal of shutting down illegal whaling and sealing operations, but Sea Shepherd later expanded its mission to include all marine wildlife. The marine conservation group often directly confronts illegal whalers and poachers at sea and is well known for the Animal Planet TV series “Whale Wars” and “Ocean Warriors.”
The ship visiting Cayman is headed to the Pacific coasts of Columbia and Costa Rica to fight shark finning activities in the region.
