CPA Canada’s Cayman Islands Chapter talks technology

Local accountants investigated the future for their profession at a learning session hosted by Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada’s Cayman Islands Chapter at the Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort on 6 May.

‘How Technology Impacts the Accounting Profession’ provided an overview of the leading technologies and economic forces reshaping the accounting profession and how accountants are using new digital business models to thrive in the face of rapid and seismic change.

“Everyone knows that technology is changing the workplace in many different ways,” said Karen Watson, the chairwoman of the Cayman Islands Chapter. “We organised this event to give our members insight into the workplace of tomorrow and the leading role that accountants will play in it.”

Garrett Wasny, an award-winning internet analyst, professional development technologist and former Price Waterhouse management consultant, was the featured speaker at the event.

“A torrent of emerging technologies, including robotic process automation, artificial intelligence, blockchain and data analytics, is disrupting the profession’s core services,” Wasny said. “Used wisely and embraced enthusiastically, new technologies will help transform accountants into forward-thinking analysts and decision-makers, further elevating the reputation of CPAs as the world’s most trusted business advisors.”
