The 2021 Walkers Cayman Islands Marathon is set for this Sunday, 5 Dec. However, the highly-anticipated annual event will feature several changes, to keep in line with the current COVID-19 regulations.
Organisers confirmed to the Cayman Compass that by, 30 Nov., 936 persons had already signed up for the event.
With that, organisers have implemented four start times, where runners/walkers will line up from Hard Rock Café on South Church Street, beginning at 4:30am.
“To adhere to the 250-person gathering limit for outdoors, there will be four start times (4:30am, 4:45am, 5:00am, 5:15am) to accommodate the almost 1,000 participants who are expected to line up,” stated a press release issued by Rhonda Kelly.
According to the organisers, spectators are restricted from the start and finish line, to avoid large crowds gathering.
An awards ceremony for the half marathon event will take place at 9:30am. Awards for the full marathon and team relay participants will be presented at 11:30am.
Additionally, people who are looking to register have until Saturday, 4 Dec. Registration will take place at the Westin between 9am and 5pm.
