KPMG Cayman Islands partner Rennie Khan was elected president of the Cayman Islands Institute of Professional Accountants on Monday, 7 March, at the professional organisation’s annual general meeting.

Khan previously served as CIIPA’s vice president and takes over from outgoing president Craig Smith, who will remain on the CIIPA council as well as its management committee and membership and licensing committee as past president.

“CIIPA has evolved and continues to adapt to its environmental conditions,” said Khan in a press release, referring to a 33% growth in membership and 46% growth in licensed practitioners over the past five years. “I am proud to be a part of this team and look forward to the year ahead as we have created a blueprint which will allow us to continue on our successful path.”

EY associate partner Rosa Nolan was elected vice president at the meeting, becoming the second woman to hold that position.

“I’m looking forward to working with the incoming president and the council on achieving CIIPA’s strategic objectives over the coming year,” Nolan said in the release.

CIIPA chief executive officer Sheree Ebanks offered a recap of the institute’s activities over the prior year, which included strengthening relationships with local and international stakeholders to carry out anti-money laundering supervision and policy work.

Lisa Bowyer was appointed head of CIIPA’s accountants working group for the national risk assessment, which will be released later this month.

CIIPA has also continued to offer training, quality assurance and practical guidance to members, aimed at ensuring those in the local accountancy industry adhere to the best global practices and standards, the organisation said.

This year, the organisation plans to implement a joint examination scheme with the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants. As a result, CIIPA will be able to provide globally accepted qualifications for local students.
