Online ticketing site adds creepy-crawly element

Where did those spiders come from? Read on...

If you’ve gone online this week to buy tickets for a local event, you may have wondered if your mobile device or computer was suddenly infested with the stuff nightmares are made of.

Eventpro.ky, in its usual nod to Halloween, has added an unsettling element to its website. Almost undetectable in the first few moments of loading a page – but apparent soon after – is a host of flies and spiders making their way randomly across the screen. The longer you linger, the greater the infestation grows.

“I nearly threw my phone across the room,” admitted one shaken customer, who found the effect realistic enough to start reaching for the bug spray.

Jonathan Christian, director of operations at Eventpro, said this is the third year that he has added the spooky twist to his site. “I feel sorry for our helpdesk,” he laughed, adding that there is always an upswing in phone calls and emails when Operation Halloween is activated.

He also said that he’s aware there are differing opinions on his choice to incorporate the theme into the company’s web pages.

“A lot of people think it’s hilarious,” he said, although one client called to say they needed to make a change to their event online and couldn’t.

“They said the site was ‘freaking them out’ and so they asked if I could make the edit for them,” Christian revealed.

Those who fear things that go bump in the night need not worry that this is a permanent ‘upgrade’.

“We’ve already called the exterminators, and we expect to be rid of the bugs after October 31st,” Christian winked.

In the meantime, anyone who wants to buy tickets online should be prepared ahead of time, so to avoid dropping their phone and breaking it. Maybe apply some ‘OFF’ body spray as well, just to be sure.

(Okay, we’ll give you a tip: If you use the app, you’ll avoid the insects.)
