Thomas Ferguson notched his first win in the annual CUC Sea Swim, which began and ended off Governors Beach on Saturday, 28 Jan., and attracted 103 swimmers to the traditional loop course.

The winning time at the 34th holding of the 800-metre event was 10:47, with Will Sellars coming in second at 10:49 and Dominic Hilton finishing third in 10:50.

Speaking with the Cayman Compass after the race, Ferguson said he was pleased about winning the open-water event for the first time.

“I’m a little out of shape but I felt good,” he said. “It was fun and it was some good competition. I started off and I went the completely wrong way because of the current; it was taking me closer to the shore, but it was amazing, and I can’t complain about it.”

Harper Barrowman was the first woman to cross the line, clocking 11:02, which was good enough for sixth overall. She was followed by Sierrah Broadbelt at 11:14, and Riley Watson at 11:20.
