A group of musicians, artists, poets and storytellers will be gathering at the Harquail Theatre on Saturday, 1 April from 3-5pm to create a fluid performance centred around the traditional Caymanian drum.
Renowned artist Randy Chollette came up with the vision of this ‘Red Boat Experience’ – an improvisational adventure with highly skilled musicians working under the premise that everyone has a story to tell and all stories are beautiful. The drum is the ‘boat’ for this journey, and Chollette’s wish is to honour Cayman’s rich history of drums and drumming in a new and contemporary way that invites the audience to participate in the entire experience.

“This will be a soul-healing experience for participants and viewers alike,” stated the press release for the event.
Through a series of creative catalysts, the musicians will create new works on the spot, intertwining many genres, interspersed with dance, spoken word, poetry, storytelling, art and song.
Many will remember the drum circles that gathered in Camana Bay, which were not choreographed in any way – the players simply followed a flow that created unique performances every time. The Red Boat Experience will feature a number of those musicians, such as Eden Hurlston, James Geary, and Max Kazakov, along with familiar names like Glen Scott, Beneil Miller, Humberto Scanio, Denys Carbo and Nathan Barnett.

Artist and storyteller Nasaria Suckoo Chollette will also be performing, and Melisha McField’s Dreamchasers group are sure to entertain with their skilled dance moves.
Tickets are on sale through the Cayman National Cultural Foundation offices behind the Harquail Theatre; at Bodyworks Holistic Wellness Centre in Queens Court; and through all participating musicians. You can also contact @suckoochollette through social media. Tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under.
