Caymanian swimmer Kyra Rabess, a freshman at the University of Northern Colorado, has already started to make a name for herself after winning the collegiate category at Horsetooth Open Water Swim on 10 Sept.

Rabess, 19, finished the 2.4-mile course in 40 minutes and 42 seconds, to claim the individual title for her school, besting the next female competitor by 35 seconds.

“I am proud of the efforts of the entire team,” UNC head coach Lisa Ebeling said in a press release issued by the school. “It was especially fun to watch Kyra settle in with a pack of Air Force and Wyoming men to crush the women’s field.”

Rabess, who graduated in May from St. Henry District High School in Erlanger, Kentucky, was named one of two MyGreeley.Com UNC Student-Athletes of the Week after her performance.

The freestyle distance swimmer, who holds four senior Cayman national records, including the long-course 1,500 metres, had last notched a major open-water victory at the 2022 CARIFTA Championships, where she won the 16-18 5K title in dominant fashion.
