Caymanian Chris Nixon has won an award for most innovative product at a Cannabiziac, Herb Curb and Rebel Salute event, which took place on 18 Jan. in St. Ann, Jamaica.

Taking the award were his full-spectrum CBD and full-spectrum THC cannabis offerings.

“I am proud of what I have accomplished over the past year. It has been a lot of hard work and experimentation in manufacturing, but I am making progress,” he said.

Nixon claims the cannabis products, which include a line of eye drops, nose drops, ear drops and a nasal spray under the brand names Lion’s Garden Botanicals and Lion’s Garden CBD, help with a variety of medical conditions.

“Unlike other products that are being sold out of the US, UK and Canada, which typically isolate certain cannabinoids in the plant and then mix the extract with olive oil or coconut oil, my products use the full extract. All of the cannabinoids are present, so nothing is isolated in the process,” he added.

Nixon was one of the first people to legally ship CBD oil to the Cayman Islands in 2017.

“The nasal spray helps with pain,” he said, noting, “the product works faster than the typical CBD oil which you put under your tongue, because with the spray, the membrane in the nasal passage means that the medicine goes directly into the bloodstream.”

Nixon added, “I am now in the process of completing registration with the Ministry of Health in Jamaica so I can begin clinical trials.”

He said he hopes the cannabis products will soon become widely available throughout the Caribbean.
