The Cayman Islands government has entered into a contract to purchase a 125-acre parcel of land, which includes the highest point in the country, at the eastern end of Cayman Brac.
Minister Johany ‘Jay’ Ebanks confirmed the contract has been signed to secure the parcel, which surrounds the Cayman Brac lighthouse and includes a significant stretch of the Cayman Brac bluff that overlooks the Caribbean Sea.
The property had been listed by the International Realty Group (IRG) on the Cayman Islands Real Estate Brokers Association website, with the agency describing the property as “an unparalleled opportunity in the Cayman Islands, one that hasn’t been available for over two decades and has no equal”.
The listing price on the site was $6.95 million, but it’s unclear what the government ended up paying or what it plans to do with the land.
A spokesperson for the Ministry of Lands said, “The land is under contract; commercial details, including price, will be released once finalised. Cabinet will determine the final use after completion. The purchase secures land for present and future generations, reflecting the public’s will.”
The marketing description of the parcel said the land includes the island’s “most stunning” natural walking trail and “is remarkable not only for its size but also for being the highest point in the Cayman Islands with elevations exceeding 150 feet”.
