The Ministry of Youth, Sports, Culture and Heritage has announced an extensive renovation and modernisation project for the Truman Bodden Sports Complex.
“To facilitate the extensive redevelopment works, the [complex] will require closure from July 2026 for an estimated period of six months, subject to final procurement and construction schedules,” said the ministry in a press release.
“Efforts will be made to minimise disruption to sporting programmes, schools, sporting associations and facility users throughout the renovation period,” the ministry added.
Areas of the complex receiving “substantial upgrades” include the playing field, running track, jump areas and grandstand infrastructure.
The ministry said that the comprehensive redevelopment is intended to transform the complex “into a modern, resilient, and internationally competitive sporting venue capable of serving elite athletes, schools, sporting associations, and hosting regional and international competitions”.
Athletes can look forward to the installation of a brand-new, high-performance athletic track engineered to meet international competition and training standards.
Additionally, the main playing field will undergo a reconstruction and enhancement process specifically aimed at improving durability, drainage, and athlete safety, ensuring it supports international sporting standards.
Beyond the field and track, spectators and officials will also see major refurbishment of the grandstands to introduce upgraded safety features, alongside general enhancements to the supporting infrastructure designed to bolster the overall functionality and resilience of the entire complex.
Reflecting on the long-term impact of the project, Minister for Sports, Isaac Rankine, said that this redevelopment “is about more than infrastructure”.
“It is about creating opportunities for Caymanian athletes, strengthening our sporting community, and ensuring future generations have access to facilities that reflect our home-grown talents, growing ambitions, and excellent potential that exists within our islands,” Rankine added.
As the project progresses, the ministry confirmed that further updates and announcements will be shared, and they encourage members of the public to keep up to date by following their official channels under the Ministry of Youth, Sports, Culture and Heritage.

Minister Rankine, please remember that it’s your duty to represent the best interests of the people of Cayman. Specifically, please do not let this 6 month project become overdue and overbudget, like the GT revitalization project.
Hopefully there will be a good project managing team directing contractors and holding them accountable, who will themselves be well overseen by the HoD or the CO, whomever that responsibility falls to.
Accountability and no more waste, please!
Hopefully once this is completed we will be able to host the Carifta Track and Field Championships again.
