Cayman Aquatics welcomed 125 swimmers to Governor’s Beach for the annual Butterfield Sea Swim.
The event, held on 30 May, featured both 800-metre and 400-metre races and attracted participants ranging from first-time open water swimmers to some of Cayman’s top competitive athletes.
Leading the way in the 800m event was Adam Sellars, who claimed the overall male title in a time of 10:55.83, while Kate Galatopoulos was the first female finisher, touching the finish line in 11:21.67.

“Both swimmers will proudly represent the Cayman Islands at the Central American and Caribbean Games in the Dominican Republic next month, making their performances an exciting preview of what is to come on the international stage,” said Cayman Aquatics.
Reflecting on the event, Alicia Proud, Cayman Aquatics federation coordinator, said, “The Butterfield Sea Swim continues to be one of our favourite community events. It provides an excellent introduction to open water swimming while also giving our competitive swimmers a chance to race in a fun and supportive environment.”
“The event also showcased the depth of Cayman’s aquatic community, with swimmers aged eight and under through to competitors in the 70-and-over age group taking part. The 400m race provided a fantastic opportunity for younger swimmers and newcomers to experience open water racing in a safe and welcoming environment,” Proud added.
For Cayman Aquatics, the attention now turns to Flowers One Mile Sea Swim on Saturday, 13 June, and the PanAm Aquatics Open Water Cup races taking place later this month.
