Summer break is officially here, bringing with it a jam-packed lineup of athletic development camps for youth across the Cayman Islands.

The Department of Sports and the Sister Islands Sports Unit have curated an extensive roster of camps designed for children starting from as young as 6 years old to teens and adults to keep active and engaged.

Grand Cayman camps

The Grand Cayman Department of Sports summer lineup starts on 7 July and runs through 14 August.

The action kicks off from 7-10 July with a mix of volleyball at Camana Bay (ARC), water aerobics at the Clifton Hunter High School pool and netball at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex courts.

From 13-17 July, the lineup features volleyball, water aerobics, beginner and elite track camps at the CIFEC Field, a football camp at the Haig Bodden Field in Bodden Town and a junior lifeguard camp at the Lions Pool in George Town.

As the month progresses, camps available from 20-24 July include tennis at the Cayman Tennis Academy, squash at the South Sound Squash Club, football at the Donavan Rankin Field, junior lifeguard at the Lions pool, boxing at the Dalmain Ebanks Boxing Gym, and rugby at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex.

The final weeks of the month, 27-31 July, will feature basketball at the John Gray Gymnasium, table tennis at the UCCI Vassel Johnson Hall and fitness and more camp for ages 10-12 at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex VIP room.

The momentum carries into August with an equally diverse schedule to close out the summer.

From 3-7 August, featured camps include taekwondo at the Dalmain Ebanks Boxing Gym, an elite basketball camp at the John Gray Gymnasium, water aerobics at the Lions Pool, cricket at the Smith Road Cricket Oval and football at The Annex Field.

From 10-14 August, the camps available are water aerobics at the Lions Pool, dance at the John Gray Dance Studio, football at the Ed Bush Stadium, fitness and more camp for seniors 65 and over at a location to be decided and boxing at the Dalmain Ebanks Boxing Gym.

Camana Bay Multi-Sport Camp

The Multi-Sport Camp that takes place at the Camana Bay Sports Complex will give youngsters ages 5-12 an opportunity to experience guided play and skill‑building activities in numerous sports, including basketball, cricket, field hockey, football, golf, gymnastics, pickleball, swimming, taekwondo, tennis, volleyball and water polo.

The camp runs from 7-24 July, with a cost of $165 for the week 7-10 July and a cost of $190 for the other two weeks.

The camp days run from 8am through noon, with drop off at 7.30am.

The annual Camana Bay Basketball Camp will take place 27-31 July, with morning sessions for those ages 7-12 and afternoon sessions for those ages 12-17. The cost for all ages is $250.

Sister Islands’ camps

The Sister Islands Sports Unit, in partnership with the Sports Association of the Sister Islands, has designed a consecutive five-week block of athletic camps in Cayman Brac.

The action commences from 7-10 July with a football camp hosted at the Cayman Brac Sports Complex for children aged 6 to 16 years old. This is immediately followed by a basketball camp utilising the Layman E. Scott Sr. High School court from 13-17 July.

The schedule transitions to swimming from 20-24 July at the 25-metre pool carrying a prerequisite that all participants must be able to swim 25 metres unassisted.

Once the swimmers dry off, the attention pivots back to the Cayman Brac Sports Complex for cricket from 27-31 July.

The entire Sister Islands summer sports series culminates from 3-7 August with a Rookie Lifeguard camp at the 25-metre pool. This final camp requires participants to be able to swim 25-metre unassisted and to be able to thread water for at least 60 seconds.
