Cayman Free Press, parent company of The Observer on Sunday reaches a milestone on Wednesday, 6 October, this week.
We celebrate our 45th anniversary.
It’s a milestone we’re happy to embrace.
There will be a special anniversary feature tucked inside our sister publication, the Caymanian Compass, on the day of the actual event. Please be sure to pick up a copy and
peruse the pages, which will take a look back at the past 45 years.
While doing research for the special feature we came across some interesting articles and events of the day.
One of the highlights in the earlier newspapers was district reports. Journalists basically didn’t exist in those early formative years, so people in the various districts, including Cayman Brac, were encouraged to submit weekly reports of the goings on in those areas. Most of them were a litany of the sermon the previous Sunday in the churches the writers attended and a listing of who came and went throughout the week, as well as births, marriages and deaths.
While the Caymanian Compass – which resulted from the merger of the Cayman Weekly and the Cayman Compass in 1974 – is the bread and butter of CFP, there are many other
publications we are proud to have in our stable; one of which you are reading now.
We launched The Observer on Sunday in 2008 to help realise a dream that CFP Managing Director Brian Uzzell always had – to provide the people of the Cayman Islands with a proper Sunday newspaper. We chose to make this publication free to our readers because we consider it a public service as well as a tool to let our advertising clients reach out to more readers.
Since the introduction of the Caymanian Compass in 1974 CFP has launched the Annual Map & Visitors Guide, The Cayman Islands Yearbook & Directory, Tourist Weekly, Key to Cayman Magazine, The Cayman Islands Journal, InsideOut Magazine, www.caycompass.com, What’s Hot Magazine, Cayman Ashore, Chamber Magazine,
Cayman Buzz Phone Directory, Observer on Sunday and Cayman Financial Review.
We’ve had a wonderful run in the past 45 years and look forward to serving the people of the Cayman Islands for decades to come.
