As we start the New Year it is always fun to look back at the prior year and remember the highlights of 2011 in rock.
Not very original but let’s have a look at the top 10 songs as I see them:
#10 – Breaking Benjamin – Blow Me Away
#9 – Chevelle – Face to the Floor
#8 – Foo Fighters – Walk
#7 – Seether – Tonight
#6 – Rise Against – Make it Stop (September’s Children)
#5 – Papa Roach – No Matter What
#4 – Foo Fighters – These Days
#3 – The Sound of Winter – Bush
#2 – Black Keys – Lonely Boy
#1 – Redlight Kings – Bullet in My Hand
Two songs by the Foo Fighters makes their album Wasting Light the rock album of the year, nice effort from a band that had been quite for the last four years.
Surprise band has to be the Canadian band (relocated to LA) Redlight Kings, every track is a treat and if you miss this album it is worth the download, trust me.
Disappointing album goes to the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ I’m With You. We waited five years for this and though it’s a decent album I was expecting so much more. Runner up would be Blink 182’s Neighborhoods – again eight years in the making and nothing new – sad.
Again as with all lists, these are one man’s opinion. Feel free to email me your top 10 lists, I would love to feature them in a future column.
As we look ahead to 2012 the most exciting news is a brand new album from the original lineup of Black Sabbath, and a tour to boot.
Other albums worth waiting for by Aerosmith, Garbage, Van Halen, Soundgarden, Green Day, Pearl Jam, Rush, The Offspring, Smashing Pumpkins, and maybe even a new one from Metallica. Needless to say 2012 looks to be a much better year for rock. Stay tuned for updates!
