The new year’s football programme kicked off with some wonderful performances on Sunday with the game of the day ending in victory for Scholars International against Bodden Town.
Scholars watched Premier League leaders Elite trounce Future 6-3 at the Bodden Town field before edging out Bodden Town 2-1. Scholars are still unbeaten this season but remain one point behind Elite in the table. Bodden Town remain third. Scholars goals came from top marksmen Mark Ebanks and Carson ‘Black Pearl’ Fagan. Theron Wood got BT’s goal.
The nine goal thriller
saw Elite’s Dwayne ‘Gaza’ Wright, Jairo Sanchez, Derrin Ebanks (2) and Alex Belcher (2) get goals and Future’s scorers were Paul Brown (2) and Tevin Yen.
At the TE McField Annex, in the first game Tigers attacked from the start against Roma United and were rewarded with an early penalty. Tigers keeper Gordon Brooks stepped up to score. Brian Scott and Zico Lewis added for Tigers in their deserved 3-0 win.
The final game between George Town and Cayman Athletic looked destined for a scoreless draw. George Town had the majority of possession and opportunities as usual but it wasn’t until eight minutes from time that they found the net through Tex Whitelocke.
It’s Digicel Cup action at the TE McField Annex on Sunday with the Scholars International taking on Elite and Roma face Bodden Town in what promises to be two fascinating first leg matches.
