The Department of Tourism has teamed up with Cayman Airways to send Caymanian band CaymanNRG to the Gasparilla festival in Tampa, Florida, on 27 January.
The trip marks the first time the Cayman Islands will be officially represented at the pirate-themed festival, which attracts hundreds of thousands of participants.
CayNRG is one of the newest live bands heating up the entertainment scene. Their introduction came as part of the 2011 Pirates Week festivities in the Cayman Islands at which the band rocked the stage at the street dance finale, delivering an outstanding performance. With their energetic style of live performance, the band’s name is a play on words, with the “NRG” in their name standing for the energy the are becoming known for.
Their music is predominately Caribbean Soca and Reggae with a touch of mainstream pop and even some hip hop.
“Members are experienced and knowledgeable,” according to band member and 2011 Pirate’s Week Song Contest Winner Vashti Bodden, who added that the team also includes some youngsters who increase the energy level.
“We are proud to be a part of the festival and represent the Cayman Islands, while also promoting Pirate’s Week,” said Ms Bodden.
