Premier League heroes return

Premier League action returns in Grand Cayman this weekend after the distraction of Sunday’s two Digicel games. All four matches are played on Monday 23 January which is a public holiday, Heroes’ Day. The hugely popular East End Surf Challenge is the only other major sporting distraction.

At the Ed Bush stadium in West Bay, bottom club Future face ever improving Bodden Town in the early game, starting at 5pm. Cayman Athletic face table toppers Elite in the 7pm match. Future under coach Roy ‘Huta’ Ebanks tend to lose their best players to neighbouring clubs Scholars International and Elite but they are never easily beaten thanks to stalwarts like Paul Brown who knocks them in and Dion Brandon, their creative midfielder.

At the TE McField Annex Scholars International are just one point behind Elite and want to maintain that pressure in the early game when they face Tigers who are having a patchy season but as their name suggests are always tenacious to the final whistle. Left sided midfielder Brian Scott always gives a good account of himself for Tigers and it is that spirit which has seen them spring some surprise results this season.

George Town want to improve their league status to truly reflect their class and with one of the best midfield line ups out there that includes national coach Ian Lindo, David ‘Starky’ Harding, Garth Anderson and Fabian Malcolm, they face Roma United who are having another up and down season but never fail to entertain.
