Road runners have a great choice of races and the next one has a very romantic angle. Sports management organisation Race Caribbean has chosen to resurrect the celebrated Valentine’s Mile run for the second year running.
This year’s mile will take place at Grand Harbour at 4pm on Sunday 12 February with proceeds benefitting local charity Hedge Funds Care Cayman. Sponsorship support and random prize donations are generously provided by Cartiér and Kirk Freeport.
The mile long event is open to individuals of any age with trophies available for the first three male and female finishers as well as a random prize selection open to all participants. For younger children a short course route is scheduled following the main event with free participation and medals for the first 100 finishers.
In keeping with Race Caribbean’s mission to improve the quality of sports events within Cayman the Valentine’s Mile course has been accurately measured and sanctioned by the Cayman Islands Athletic Association. Entrant finishing times will be posted online at www.racecaribbean.net
Entry is $15 per adult and free for children.
Organiser Derek Larner said: “All participants will receive a ‘Run For Love’ t-shirt, a healthier body and the knowledge that they are making a positive difference in a child’s life. Most people can jog or walk one mile.
“This is the Run For Love so if you love someone; your wife, boyfriend, mum or dog, complete the mile to show your appreciation for those that you love and let the proceeds go to help treat and prevent child abuse.”
Entrants may register at the rear of Grand Harbour between 2pm and 3.45pm on the day of the race. Alternatively entry forms can be completed at the Cartiér boutique on Cardinal Avenue or online at www.caymanactive.com
Hedge Funds Care Cayman’s Lauren Nelson said: “Following its foundation in 2005 a hard working committee of hearts has since distributed US$1.6 million in grants to agencies and organisations in the Cayman Islands that work to prevent and treat child abuse and neglect.”
In supporting the Run For Love event Wanda Rice-Carbini expressed “the strong desire of Cartiér to assist Hedge Funds Care Cayman”.
