Baggy claims first Madden Bowl

For Super Bowl weekend, arguably the biggest annual sporting event in the world, The Attic hosted its first Madden Bowl.

The double-elimination video game tournament began last Saturday afternoon with nine of the best Madden 2012 players on Grand Cayman. Madden 2012 is one of the world’s most popular video games and the tournament was played on the PlayStation 3 video game console. Most of the top teams were chosen by the competitors including the Green Bay Packers, San Francisco 49ers, New Orleans Saints, Pittsburgh Steelers, Philadelphia Eagles, Baltimore Ravens, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Super Bowl finalist the New England Patriots and 2012 champions the New York Giants.

It turned out to be eerie foreshadowing for Super Bowl XLVI as the Patriots and the Giants ended up facing off for the Madden Bowl championship. The scenario was set after David “Baggy” Taylor guided the Giants to an undefeated run to the finals and a very hard fought win in the losers’ bracket by Albert “Patman” Whittaker with the Patriots over his brother Rupert “Rupie” Whittaker’s Packers. All are current players in the Cayman Islands Flag Football Association.

The Madden Bowl I championship game started off lightning fast for the undefeated Giants, scoring 21 points in the first half and seizing total control of the victory. But they had a scare in the fourth quarter when Patman scored on two back-to-back onside kicks. Baggy snuffed out any thoughts of a comeback with an interception and drove down the field to score another Eli Manning to Victor Cruz touchdown. Final score Giants 35, Patriots 14.

Baggy is now the first Madden Bowl winner at The Attic with the victor’s spoil being a bar tab at The Attic and a VIP Party for five at JET nightclub or O Bar.
