Pizza Hut have plenty of bragging rights on the diamond these days.
The squad won the AA division of the Cayman Islands Little League 2012 season. Pizza Hut had a 11-5-2 record, capped off by a 16-1 thrashing of Maples at the George Topwn Field of Dreams facility.
The game was totally dominated from start to finish by Pizza Hut. Player of the game Wyatt Hope had a great game with an Run Batted In single and a walk. Strong pitching by Justin Derrick held Maples to no runs in the first two innings.
Francisco Fuentes started as the Maples pitcher but things never went his way from the start as he gave up six runs in the first inning and it was pretty much all down hill from there.
It was a nail-bitter in the third inning with the bases being loaded twice. Closer Mario “Super Mario” Ebanks would come to the rescue by keeping his cool and pitching his way out of the jam while giving up only one run. He came back again in the bottom of the fourth inning and cleaned up with three straight strike-outs to secure a blow-out win for Pizza Hut.
When asked about his teams winning season, head coach Tim Derrick stated it was a great achievement.
“The boys made tremendous strides this year working on their fundamental skills, but most importantly very early on, they began pulling together and playing as a team, which translated into a very successful and fun season for us all. The Pizza Hut coaching staff would like to congratulate the boys on their fine accomplishments this season.”
The postseason, which will feature Zion Coe and the Crighton Sluggers, was slated to begin last Saturday, 19 May, at the Field of Dreams.
