Plenty of spiking

Local volleyball players and fans alike are in for a double treat in the near future.

The 2014 World Championship Qualification are being held here next month and then the increasingly popular Cayman Airways Spikefest is staged here again in November.

The World Championship Qualification runs from 6-7 October at the Sir Vassel Johnson Hall, UCCI gymnasium. It will feature four men’s teams from the Caribbean region competing for a spot at the World Championships finals in Poland in 2014. Besides Cayman, Aruba, Barbados and Suriname will compete. Play commences at 10am on Saturday 6 October and runs through until 10pm the following day.

The Spikefest is the annual club volleyball event running from 9-11 November, also at the UCCI gym. This is the third consecutive year for the event since its return from a brief hiatus from the Cayman Islands. Challenging Cayman teams are Jamaica, Bahamas, United States and Barbados.
