The chairman of the United Democratic Party said Tuesday that he will leave that post later this month.
Billy Reid, 72, wrote to Premier McKeeva Bush, the leader of the UDP, back in June to notify Mr. Bush of his intentions to step down at the next political party conference.
Mr. Reid said he had since notified Mr. Bush that he would step down effective 15 September.
“I have been chairman of the United Democratic Party since the inception of the party in November 2001, which is almost 11 years,” Mr. Reid said. “I feel that it is important for me to pass on the torch to a younger person with more vigour than I now have.
“I wish our party every success in the coming election, which I expect will be a very challenging one.”

Not sure how to take this announcement but something doesn’t smell quite right.
I think Mr Reid made a wise decision. As he stated, he has been chairman of UDP since its inception in 2001 and he feels it is time to pass the baton to a younger person.
I believe Mr Reid is sincerely honest about his stated reasons. He is 72 and feels that a younger person should now take over the position.
It is good and very broadminded when a person feels the time has come to give others the opportunity to serve. Such a successor could be more energetic and brimming with fresh thoughts and new ideas.
We wish Mr Reid good health and success in his future endeavours.
Gosh Banana, you’re not suggesting there’s corruption afoot? I am simply shocked.
