New restaurant offers fresh and tasty options

A new restaurant with the motto “eat good, feel good” opened up in George Town on 27 August.

Situated on Elgin Avenue across from the Government Administration Building, Fresh & Tasty offers breakfast, lunch and even dinner on the go.

Restaurant co-owner Martin Richter said Fresh & Tasty’s food is made fresh daily using as many locally-sourced ingredients as possible.

“This is something that was missing here; someplace where you can just drop in and get fast, fresh and tasty food; a place to get something you know is good for you and not just anything,” he said. “Now you have a choice.”

The restaurant also is easy on the budget, with all the individual menu items under $9.

Although Fresh & Tasty serves fresh food with fresh ingredients, Martin said Fresh & Tasty isn’t necessarily a health food restaurant, even if it does have several vegetarian and healthy options on the menu.

Open for breakfast from 6.30am, the restaurant serves several egg dishes, along with cereals and porridges. Martin said the Asian Congee – a savoury rice porridge – has been a big hit that sells out every morning.

The restaurant also offers freshly made baked goods like breads, muffins, croissants and pastries.

“The baker comes in every night,” he said.

Lunch features four freshly made soups, including the popular mulligatawny curry soup with chicken; a vegan vegetable soup; tomato bisque and a daily soup of the day.

Fresh and Tasty also serves salads, sandwiches, wraps, pasta and daily specials for lunch.

Although the restaurant closes at 5.30pm, it offers $10 three-course dinner specials that change daily for those who want to grab a hearty meal to go on the way home from work.

On the beverage side, Fresh and Tasty offers locally made juices, organic teas and Illy Coffee products.

The restaurant will deliver for minimum orders of $10 to $15 depending on location, sometime using its bicycle delivery vehicle.

Although the restaurant has only a few counter spots inside, it offers shaded outdoor dining on its patio, which is nestled among the restaurant’s herb gardens. Martin said that he intends to also grow herbs and vegetables on the roof of the building.

“It will be the first rooftop garden at a restaurant in Cayman,” he said.

Because there is limited parking in front of the restaurant, Martin said some people call in their order in advance and then stop in the crescent driveway in front of the restaurant and someone takes the food out to them. He also said he hoped to have online ordering available in the very near future.
