Ladies net brief holiday reprieve

Local netball will tip off slightly later than expected.

The Cayman Islands Netball Association will restart its 2012-2013 open league the week of Tuesday, 8 January, 2013. The original dates were 3 and 5 January. The association did not state a reason for the change.

Matches are slated for the Truman Bodden Sports Complex netball courts. Up first on Tuesday is the top flight as Stacy Reid-Satahoo leads reigning national champions All Stars A against the Jets while Renegades face Unity at 6.45pm.

On Thursday, 10 January, Renegades face Rosemarie Wilson and Rising Stars A while Unity face Jets at 6.45pm. Flames Strikers battle All Stars at 8pm. On Saturday, 12 January, Rising Stars battle Nicola Pringle’s Storm Radarz at 8pm.

Saturday also sees the B ranks in action. At 6.45pm, Brittany Mobley’s Cayman National Bank All Stars B face the Optimists while Gemma Butterfield’s Ernst and Young Hot Shots face Island Heritage. At 8pm, Storm Chaserz face Melanie Lewis’ Supa Storm.

The league completed round four of play last month. In the top flight, 2-1 Radarz are in first place ahead of 2-1 Rising Stars A and the 2-1 Strikers. Reigning champions All Stars A are seeded fourth at 2-0 with the Jets fifth at 1-1, Renegades sixth at 0-3 and Unity seventh at 0-2.

In the B division, 3-1 Rising Stars B rank first, 3-0 All Stars B sit second and 3-0 Supa Storm are third. From there, the 2-1 Optimists are fourth, 1-3 Hot Shots sit fifth, 0-4 Island Heritage are sixth and 0-3 Chaserz rank seventh.

The top scorers in the top flight are Kay Copeland of the Radarz (102 goals scored) and the Strikers’ Marsha Campbell (87 goals). In the B division, All Stars’ Karen Smith-James (56 goals) and Rising Stars’ Aaliyah Webb (41 goals) lead the way.
