Truman Bodden on track again

Local track and field athletes have a major meet this weekend for what promises to be another entertaining pair of sessions of competition.

The meet was rescheduled from last weekend, when it had to be postponed due to inclement weather.

The Cayman Islands Athletic Association is hosting the annual Truman Bodden Track Meet on Friday, 8 March, beginning at 6pm and the following day starting at 9am.

The meet is sponsored by Truman Bodden, the former Cayman Islands leader of government business who has staged this event for more than 20 years.

Bodden has been an enthusiastic supporter of track and field in the Cayman Islands and has assisted in obtaining corporate sponsorship from local businesses.

With the Inter-Primary Championships and 2013 CARIFTA looming, there will be a large turnout of athletes competing in preparation for the international season.

All athletes, both senior and junior, will turn out hoping to qualify for CARIFTA, or the Central American and Caribbean Games and IAAF World Youth Games.

Sprinters Troy Long, Demitri Chambers and Romario Nathan all hope to qualify for at least one major event this season.

The association is appealing for officials to assist. All the usual sprints and field events will be contested.
