Seminoles set to slay Tigers

Pigskin lovers in the Cayman Islands should be intrigued by this year’s college title game.

The Florida State Seminoles head into the Bowl Championship Series National Championship contest as the No. 1 team in the country with a 13-0 record. The Seminoles have the top-ranked offense – scoring 53 points per game on average – and the best defense, surrendering 10.7 points per game. Florida State also boasts the best player in star quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston. All of those facts are sure to make many locals conjure up the glory days of Charlie Ward.

However, lifting the title in California is far from a given for the Florida crew. Standing in their way on Monday, Jan. 6, at 8:30 p.m. on ESPN are No. 2 Auburn. The Tigers, 12-1, have the top rushing attack with 335.7 rushing yards per game on average, with Heisman finalist Tre Mason leading the way with 1,621 yards. They ranked 10th overall in offense, averaging 40.2 points per game.

It should also be noted that Auburn beat the defending two-time champions, the Alabama Crimson Tide, to gain their berth in the title game. History will favor the Tigers on Monday night as the Southeastern Conference has won the last seven national titles.

Ultimately, Florida State has all the momentum as an undefeated team and are the heavy favorites to complete a perfect campaign. With all of their victories this season being blowouts, the Seminoles have the talent on both sides of the ball to rack up another landslide triumph. Cayman fans should be pleased when the Noles ride off into the history books with a 14-point win.
