Realtor elects Grand Court

Broker faces one charge of theft

Antonio Paolini, 74, appeared in Summary Court on Tuesday and elected to have the charge against him tried in Grand Court.

He is accused of stealing $51,600 from a named individual on Feb. 25, 2013, when he was a broker and owner of a real estate company.

Defense attorney Michael Snape advised that the required preliminary inquiry could proceed by way of short form. Mr. Snape, a former Crown counsel, recently joined the law firm Priestleys.

Crown Counsel Candia James checked that all the documents needed at this stage were ready to be submitted to the court. She then agreed to the short form, meaning that no witnesses had to be called in order for the matter to be sent to the Grand Court.

Magistrate Valdis Foldats extended the defendant’s bail until Sept. 5, when he was directed to attend the higher court.
