Second man charged as accessory

Defendant in Solomon Webster case remanded in custody until Sept. 23

Blake Christopher Barrell, 30, appeared in Summary Court on Friday charged with being an accessory after the fact of murder. A second charge is accessory after the fact of manslaughter.

Both relate to the death of Solomon David Webster, which occurred after an incident on Sunday, Sept. 7, at Miss Daisy Lane in West Bay.

Details allege that Barrell, well knowing or believing that Jose Guadelupe Sanchez had murdered or unlawfully killed Mr. Webster, assisted Sanchez by providing him with a telephone handset and telephone calls, with intent to impede his apprehension or prosecution.

Barrell, a resident of West Bay, was represented by attorney Orrie Merren. Mr. Merren told Magistrate Kirsty-Ann Gunn he was not applying for bail at that time because he had not received disclosure papers from the Crown and had 13 minutes notice of the hearing.

The magistrate remanded Barrell in custody and set the matter for mention again on Tuesday, Sept. 23, when it was expected that a bail application would be heard.

Sanchez, 27, appeared in court on Sept. 15 on charges of murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm. These matters were transmitted to Grand Court, where he is scheduled to appear from custody on Friday, Sept. 26.
