The Lighthouse School has joined six other schools in the “Buy A Kid Breakfast” program.
The initiative, run by the Kiwanis Club of Grand Cayman, provides donations to fund breakfasts for students in need.
“Studies have shown that hungry students do not learn as much as they should and that there is a link between hunger and anti-social behavior in schools. Attempting to alleviate this problem here in Cayman, the program was launched in 2006 when Kiwanis began supporting several children at George Town Primary at the request of the principal,” the club said in a statement.
Money is raised for this program by Kiwanis members through monthly collections at local supermarkets, the annual “Breakfast for Dinner” event, and other fundraisers.
