The Mustangs track club will compete in the Carifta Trials in Nassau, Bahamas tomorrow and Saturday.
Nine athletes will constitute the team and will compete in various events such as high jump, long jump and shot putt.
Accompanying the athletes will be Coach Tyrone Yen and Manager Sana Tugman.
The team was set to leave Cayman Wednesday, with the first group coming back on Sunday, 9 March, and the second on Tuesday, 11 March.
Five club members have already reached the Carifta qualifying standard. Avril Myers will compete in the U17 girls shot putt, Kadeen Foster will be in the U20 girls 800m and Ashleigh Nalty will compete in the U17 girls high jump.
Star runner Chantelle Morrison will race in the U17 girls 100m. Travis Webb is the lone male club member to go to Carifta so far, taking part in the U17 boys high jump.
This year’s track and field portion of the Carifta Games will be held in St. Kitts over the Easter weekend.
Coach Tyrone Yen is optimistic that a few more will qualify at this weekend’s competition. He said the team expects strong opposition from the Bahamians but is intent on doing the Cayman Islands proud.
