Despite the recent public uproar surrounding the removal of three top Cayman Islands police commanders, the Royal Cayman Islands Police service will go ahead with a round of community meetings as planned this month.
Mr. George |
The first will be held tonight at John Cumber Primary School hall in West Bay, starting at 7pm.
‘Although this is an unsettling time for the RCIPS and the community as a whole, it is business as usual and that means following through with plans and operations that are in place,’ Acting Police Commissioner David George said. ‘Communicating with residents and stakeholders is a priority for the RCIPS, maybe more so at this time than ever before.’
Mr. George was named as acting commissioner just six days ago after it was announced that RCIPS Commissioner Stuart Kernohan, Deputy Commissioner Rudolph Dixon and Chief Superintendent John Jones had been placed on required leave by Governor Stuart Jack.
Mr. Jack said the three were being placed on leave to facilitate an enquiry that’s been on-going at the police service since September.
All Cayman Islands residents are invited to attend the meetings which will run from 7pm to 9pm on the nights they are held. Police officials, including Mr. George will be on hand to answer questions concerning law enforcement and community protection.
The meetings are scheduled tonight in West Bay; Thursday in George Town at the Mary Miller Hall; 9 April at Bodden Town Primary School, 10 April at the East End Civic Centre, and 22 April at the North Side Civic Centre.
