Fashion gets Fresh!

Local fashion designers will be showcasing their lines at the upcoming Fresh! Cayfest Fashion Show.

The fashionable event – part of the Cayman National Cultural Foundation’s Cayfest festival – is scheduled for this Sunday, at the Harquail Theatre, from 6pm.

Participating designers are Letita Davis-Eden, Jawara Alleyne, Dwight McLean, Sara Sue Scott, Rachel Christ, Shanda and Angella Glidden, Anjuli Muttoo, Luigi Moxam, Vinnette Glidden and Faye Lazarus.

Each designer has been asked to come up with their own fashion line, of which two pieces must have a Caymanian theme.

‘Many designers are keeping their designs very close to their chests,’ Donna Reid, CNCF programmes manager said. ‘Although, from what I have seen there is a lot of designs inspired by the sun, the blue of the Caribbean sea and sky and the island’s flora.’

Last year’s inaugural event was a huge success with the theatre full to capacity. This year, organisers are anticipating a similar response, and are encouraging all to get to the theatre early to guarantee a seat.

The two-hour show has over 30 young models, many modelling for the first time. Miss Cayman Islands Rebecca Parchment will model at the event.

Miss Jamaica World, Yendi Phillips, fashion and grooming consultant Althea Ling, former Pulse model Lena McGown and Miss Festival Queen Choreographer Dwight McLean have been working with the models to ensure the show’s success.

‘We hope this event will encourage young Caymanians to enter the fashion industry, be it as a model or as a designer,’ Ms Reid said.

Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 children.
